Gymnastics Career

  • Started practising artistic gymnastics in Bloemfontein in  1967 at the age of 6. Earned Free State, Griquas, Natal and Gauteng artistic gymnastics colors. Multiple provincial medalist and national gold medalist. 

  •  Represented South Africa at Federation of International Gymnastics Gymnastics Gymnaestrada events.

  • Provincial and national colors and medalist in tumbling gymnastics.

  • Represented South Africa in tumbling gymnastics as international competitor and national squad captain.

Coaching Career

  • Founded the first competitive tumbling-only club on the African Continent at the age of 20. 

  • Dominated the South African competitive tumbling gymnastics competitions for an extended period producing a significant number of provincial and national champions and team members and medalists at the Tumbling Gymnastics World Age Group Games and World Championships. He discovered and coached Michelle Wiehahn, the most awarded South African tumbling gymnast of her time whom he later married.     

  • Presented provincial and national coaching workshops, courses, clinics and development programs for the South African Federation.     

  • Currently a Certified FIG 2 coach by the Federation of International Gymnastics

Event Organizer

  • Organizer of various local and national competitions, international training camps and major events.

  • As a member of the Sun International entrepreneur, Michael Lovegrove's, production team, he helped audition , train  and choreograph the popular Baletsatsi production at Sun City.   

  • Cultivating his passion for high performance acrobatics, he teamed up with the world famous Cirque du Soles Entertainment Company to organize the first continental auditions in Africa.

  • He secured sponsorships and media exposure to bring several international coaches and gymnasts to South Africa to present courses, clinics and participate in public exhibitions developing the sport. Some great  names include: Alexei Kryjanovski (RUSS) world tumbling champion, Pascal Eozan (FRA) world tumbling champion, Chrystelle Robert ( FRA) multiple world tumbling champion, Chad Fox (USA) multiple world tumbling and double mini trampoline champion, David Martin (FRA) world trampoline champion, the female junior and senior sports acrobatics world champions (BEL and GB), world renowned coaches Vasili Skakun ( RUSS) , Christophe Lambert ( FRA) , Nard Gazelle (USA) , Geert van den Bergh (BEL), Karine Lambert (FRA), Romi Viginie (FRA) and Abadie Viginie (FRA). 

  • Organizer of the 21 st Trampoline and Tumbling World Championships and final Olympic qualifier and the 21st Age Group at Sun City. He secured this position through various international recommendations and the support of Christophe Lambert (FRA) whom he had met at the Birmingham (USA) World Championships and who became a great friend of South Africa developing the sport throughout the country.  The events became the  largest high profile competitive international gymnastics events ever presented by South Africa. As a young lawyer, Danie secured partners such as Sun International, The North-west Government, Retief Transport, Eurotramp, Supersport and suppliers for the BBC to ensure world-wide exposure and the success of the events. The events were were attended by delegations from over 40 countries. 

Sports Administrator

  • He was legal advisor for the South African national body, president of the South African Tumbling technical committee, became a national and international competition judge and served as South African team manager. Under his leadership a great number of coaches and judges courses qualifying officials for the sport was presented.

  • Introduced professional cheer-leading to the South African sports arena. 

  • Founder/manager of the professional Bulls Babes entertainment squad who became world-renowned for their high quality dance and acrobatic performance in the South African corporate, sports and entertainment industry during 2000 to 2010.

Gymnastics Career

  • Michelle started her gymnastics career at the age of 10. Achieved Gauteng colors in artistic- and tumbling gymnastics. Multiple provincial and national gold medalist. Member of the artistic gymnastics national women's training squad. Member of South African women’s national tumbling gymnastics team for 10 years. Winner of the South African Top 10 Tumbling Championships title where she also beat the male competitors. South African national women’s tumbling gymnastics champion 7 years in a row and the first South African female tumbling gymnast to achieve majorly on international level. Michelle was presented with the Sports Women's award by the University of Pretoria.

  • As the most awarded high performance female South African tumbling gymnast of her time, Michelle represented South Africa at the World Tumbling and Trampoline Championships and World Games were she was rated among the 10 top female tumbling gymnasts in the world before her retirement. 

Coaching Career

  • Michelle studied Human Movement Education at UP. and is currently a Certified FIG 2 coach by the Federation of International Gymnastics. 

  • She is the owner of the MiniGim/ Minigym brand presenting kiddies movement education programs gymnastics based to 3 to 6 year olds. 

  • The Tumbling Gymnastics program for kids to young adults presented by Michelle produces a large number of  provincial and national team members and medalists every year. 

  • As high performance coach she produces national champions and national team members.

  • Michelle was awarded the top Gauteng North & Central coaching award. She is passionate about developing the sport and regularly presents tumbling holiday camps and workshops attended by gymnasts and tumblers from all over the country.

  • Former international judge and currently qualified judge for the South African Gymnastics Federation,

 Competition Organizer

As sports events organizer was the Secretary General for the 21st World Championships and Age Group Games and Chief Results Coordinator for these major international events. Together with her husband Danie she has been involved with presentation of a great number of courses, clinics and events.

Tumbling programme for school children presented by Michelle ensures that more than 18 provincial medallists and 15 medallists at South African national championships level are produced by her every year.,

Michelle also excels as high performance coach and her gymnasts and last year 3 gymnasts awarded federation colours, 2 silver and a bronze medal at the ZONE VI Championships (African Countries) presented at the University of Pretoria, one tumbler participated at the 11th African Gymnastics Championships and was awarded senior national colours . He won bronze and the team came second. Competing countries were Namibia, Egypt, Botswana, Algeria and Zimbabwe.

Michelle was awarded the top Gauteng North & Central coaching award. She is passionate about developing the sport and regularly presents tumbling holiday camps and workshops attended by gymnasts and tumblers from all over the country ( as far as Cape Town). Michelle is also a energetic sports event organiser .

She was the secretary general for the 21st World Championships and Age Group Games and chief results coordinator for this major event. Together with her husband Danie she has been involved with presentation of a great number of courses, clinics and events.
